April 8, 2009

West Palm Beach, April 8, 2009 -- Palm Beach County’s Workforce Summit 2009 will be hosted by Workforce Alliance at the Kravis Center on May 28 from 7:30 am to 12:00 noon. The principal speaker will be best-selling author Dan Pink, with a presentation based on his New York Times best-selling list book, “A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future.”

Kathryn Schmidt, President and CEO of Workforce Alliance, said, “The leaders of small and large businesses, educators, economic development groups and employers in general have attended each of the previous Workforce Summits for Palm Beach County. It is time-well-spent for all attendees since the discussions and input from our business leaders at each of the previous Summits provided the necessary input for the development of our planning process for demand-driven workforce development in Palm Beach County.”

Mr. Pink is the author of a trio of best-selling books on the changing world of work, and his presentation will reveal how the current international economic environment and other trends are nudging us into an era defined not by traditional knowledge workers, but by creators and empathizers. He will use real life examples to offer hands-on tools and tips on how today’s businesses can navigate the new terrain.

Ms. Schmidt added, “Dan Pink has the perfect message to carry forward the momentum from last year’s event, which was entitled ‘The Future of Palm Beach County Workforce Development: It’s a Journey, Not a Destination.’   We expect even greater attendance and participation this year because of the favorable feedback we received upon the conclusion of last year’s event.   The Summit is open to all businesses, government agencies, educational institutions, employers and community organizations who wish to participate and provide input to the workforce planning process for our County.”

To register for the Summit, visit Workforce Alliance’s website, www.pbcalliance.com, or call 561-340-1060, ext. 2373. The advance registration cost is $45.00 per attendee, with discounts for the purchase of entire tables. Advance registrants will receive a copy of Mr. Pink’s best-selling book. Co-sponsors of the event are: WPBF-TV, Florida MEP, FPL, and ION Media Networks.
